Granite

Next to diamonds, granite is one of the hardest and most durable rocks in the world. Granite is formed by solidification of liquid magma under the pressure of earth's crust. Granite is consists of three minerals —feldspar, quartz and black mica. It has a granular appearance and comes in a variety of color. Granite is available in 2 cm and 3 cm thicknesses.

Granite is a rich-looking yet low maintenance stone making it ideal for use as countertop, flooring and fireplace facings. Granite is an especially great choice for high-traffic areas.

Care and Cleaning
Because of its durability, granite will maintain its glossy appearance. Granite is virtually scratch proof. Heat has very little effect on natural granite so granite surfaces are able to withstand greater temperatures than other solid surfaces. A hot pot off the stove will not cause damage granite. To prevent discoloration and staining, granite should be sealed.

Finishes
Granite has two types of finish: polished and honed (matte). Both polished and honed surfaces are smooth.

Edges
Granite can be fabricated with a variety of edge treatments. View sample edge treatments.
